A Preston cricket club has been handed a cash boost from a leading housebuilder.
Hesketh Bank Cricket Club has received £750 as part of the Persimmon Homes Lancashire Healthy Communities campaign.
The scheme will see Persimmon, give away more than £600,000 to sporting causes across the UK over the next 10 months, with an overall top national prize of £200,000 in addition to numerous regional donations.
The community run cricket club provides coaching and facilities for both boys and girls right through to seniors.
Simon Billington, of the club, said: “We are delighted to receive such a generous donation from Persimmon Homes.
“We are committed to providing a great facility to allow young people in the area to enjoy playing cricket. The £750 donation will help kick-start our fundraising efforts to improve our onsite facilities for the children.
“It’s fantastic to see the company give back to the community.”
Every month this year, Persimmon Homes Lancashire will hand out £750 to either a sports team, or individual aged 21 years and under in the area, with the money to be spent on kit, equipment, coaching or facilities.
A shortlist of 30 will then be created for a national final to be decided on a public vote, with the winning club or individual receiving £200,000 to create a long-lasting legacy and two runners-up receiving £50,000 each.
The new fund is in addition to the £720,000 the company already donates through its hugely successful Community Champions scheme each year.
Diane Finch, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Lancashire, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Hesketh Bank Cricket Club.
“The club are doing great work in the community, and it’s great to see so many young people taking part in cricket.
“We wish the club all the best for the future.”
